Rebel Grapes started as a joke over wine banter with the sommelier — then as a homage to the classic film - Sideways - that both famed and defamed Merlot. A word so innocent, yet judged so severely.

I’d asked for a Malbec, but she had an alternative: the Merlot offered.

“Fuck Merlot,” I said. Her eyes widened, and then she smiled too — in congruity. She had seen the cult classic, and so had I. The other guests didn’t get the reference, but within a line or two, we were all laughing and sipping what turned out to be one of the best Merlots ever.

It was time for a revival. Rebel Grapes was born from that pour, that laugh, that pushback. It’s for anyone who believes wine is better with friends, louder with laughter, and freer when it isn’t diluted with pretense.

Our first drop — Unfuck Merlot — is a toast to that moment at the table, and to everyone who knows the grape deserves its revival.
